Day 8 – Tuesday 27th February, 2018

Beautiful Music – Beautiful Harmonies – Beautiful Day

Some days are same old, same old and others are so special. This being one of these days.

A good night’s sleep and feeling somewhat peckish I threw a few eggs in the frypan, sunny-side up with a splash of cheese and toast and a most enjoyable brekkie.

Our pickup point for today’s adventure was only 5 minutes away and we made it with heaps of time to spare.

Three other tourist were squeezed into the Land Rover for a 20 minute drive to our location on, aptly named Highway One. And one guess why – it’s the only highway and it circumnavigates Iceland.

Out with two sledges and 8 gorgeous, did I say gorgeous, Huskies soon harnessed and ready to work.

Each run was about 3 – 4 km in length. Having an odd number of tourist (5) mean we need three runs for everybody to have a go. My fortune was that being of solid construction, I went last with 2 extra Huskies to pull me along. Trust me it had nothing to do with weight, just that after all that pulling they were a bit tired and need the support of two of their friends. At least that’s my take on it and given my physical stature I don’t think I’ll have an argument…

What can I say, my face is still sore from my ear-to-ear grin – smiley happy face!!!

A wonderful experience and if you’re wondering what the “Beautiful Music – Beautiful Harmonies” were, click on the following video.

Waiting my turn...

Knee deep in sh... snow...

Leading the Husky pack into the dying light of the afternoon...

Back home for a quick refresh and then headed north to circumnavigate the peninsula all 300km round trip.

The panoramas and colours were truly amazing...

So typical for this part of Iceland - a gorgeous view around every corner...

The ice plain formed the perfect mirror...

Yep, there's a black sheep in every family...

A photo opp was available around every corner and geologically speaking, the lava eruption over the eons created some interesting patters and with snow forming part of the canvas the end result was one of beauty.

All the way back to our digs we kept looking up through the moonroof to see clouds slowly dispersing. All hope is pinned on the clouds staying away and several invitations were extended to the Northern Lights to appear for us from DownUnder.

If we have luck I’ll add to this post, but for now Eddie Vedder Into the Wild is playing through the amazing B&O Play A9 (check it out) and a few Beluga Moscow Mules.

Fingers crossed.

We started to fill the hot tub, large enough to fit between 4 and six people and located on the outside veranda. A few more Beluga Moscow Mules were prepared and we ventured outside. Sure, the air temperature was around -3C however the water in the hot tub was sitting on 38C. This coupled with the warming effect of the Beluga made for an amazing experience.

And all the time body fully immersed in the hot water we were gazing skyward to see if the elusive lights would appear. Alas, they did not and a brisk two meter sprint put us back inside well before we became frozen icicles…

The Adventure Continues…
